Department of Nursing

Department Restructures BSN Curriculum

Exciting changes are coming to the Department of Nursing.  These changes will make a smoother and more successful transition from pre-nursing to nursing.  Starting in 2011 fulltime students will be admitted into nursing in the summer session.  Summer classes will include Medical Terminology, Pathophysiology, Health Promotions   and Junior Nursing Seminar.   Junior nursing seminar is a course designed with your success in mind.  It will prepare students for the nursing curriculum, covering topics such as clinical requirements, surviving nursing school, nursing as a profession, and "The Circle of Caring philosophy".  As Dr Wilborn, Chair of the Department of Nursing states, "this seminar will prepare students for the rigor of the nursing program and will provide tools for success in every nursing course."

The deadline to apply for the Fulltime nursing track is November 15th.  Please make note of this when scheduling classes, and the admission test.  Admission decisions will be mailed to students in early February.

We are certain that you once you start the new sequence you will be as excited about the changes as we are!

The mission of the Department of Nursing is to prepare professional nurses to improve quality of life. The nursing educational experience inspires commitment to personal and professional integrity, social equity, collaborative practice, and community service. It is the belief of the faculty that nursing is a discipline of knowledge and a professional service based on caring, the central concept of nursing.

As I reflect on this mission and the challenges of nursing education, I realize the unique position of our nursing program in a liberal arts institution.  Students are encouraged to explore not only natural and social sciences, but also develop an understanding of the arts, history, world community, and communication.  Nursing students at Brenau have opportunities to work with a state-of-the-art human patient simulator, become involved with the community through health fairs, participate in international study, and work closely with other majors on projects that impact the sustainability of our environment.
