VISION
The Professional Education Unit of the School of Education at Brenau University seeks to exemplify excellence in preparing students to educate our youth, expand the minds of all with whom they come in contact, enhance their work-place and communities, and embody the ideals of Brenau University. The Professional Education Unit assumes responsibility for educating candidates to become reflective professionals who are knowledgeable in the content of their respective disciplines; who use reflection as a part of the ongoing process of planning, implementing, and evaluating; and make decisions based on knowledge of the learner. All constituents are dedicated to supporting the conceptual framework of the School of Education.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
The Brenau University School of Education's conceptual framework theme, "Reflective Decision Makers", is based upon the belief that educators should make reflective decisions and take active roles in planning, implementing and evaluating effective teaching practices.
The process of being a "Reflective Decision Maker" focuses upon three areas that are essential elements of effective teaching. These areas include: content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and knowledge of the learner.
The College of Education has adopted six unit outcomes based the Georgia Framework for Teachers which are aligned with the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) Principles, the Georgia Professional Standards Commission standards for teacher certification, the NCATE standards and the Core Propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
